When the GCAT crew arrived at the Hillebrand Winery it was a gorgeous, sunny Saturday afternoon and it seemed as if half the country had come out, like us, to taste, explore and enjoy the Hillebrand Winery. Buses, cars, limousines, motorbikes the parking lot was filled with excited people ready to enjoy the delicious wine, delectable food and beautiful grounds of the winery. There was even a gorgeous bride and groom making their way into the winery with a group of friends and family in tow.
We spent the afternoon touring the buildings, grounds, cellars and vineyards of the winery. The grapes were nearly all harvested and huge buckets of luscious green grapes were stacked up waiting to be turned into delicious wine. Inside the winery there were people relaxing in the dining room, sampling products in the tasting rooms, lounging in the sun on the patio beside the fountain and strolling the gardens. Another treat we experienced was being taken down on a tour of the sparkling wine cellar where we saw where the vats were stored and all the bottles stacked up aging themselves to perfection!
Our afternoon at the winery would not have been complete without a little tasting of Hillebrand wine. And, as a special treat for the GCAT crew our host poured us a mouth-watering mix of ice wine and sparkling wine — DEE-lectable!
After our tour and tasting it was not hard to understand why Hillebrand is becoming well know in wine circles around the world. Winning awards and impressing wine critics on the international scene Hillebrand wines are becoming a wine of choice for many aficionados.
After a fabulous afternoon we left Hillebrand with our taste buds as happy as they had ever been in our lives! If you are ever in the Niagara region be sure to stop by Hillebrand winery. Take it from us, there is no better way to spend an afternoon!
